How to create a virtual photography exhibition.

With this article, I want to show you how to create a virtual photography exhibition.

But first, let me remind you that:

Here you can find all my articles.

Here you will go to my channels.

Why organize a photography exhibition?

Based on my experience, I can affirm that photography exhibitions serve as the best platform to gain recognition in the world of photography.

Whether it’s a solo exhibition or a group show, a photography exhibition provides a unique opportunity to showcase one’s talent and establish connections with professionals in the field.

Personally, I’m about to embark on the creation of my own solo exhibitions, following the success I’ve encountered FLORENCE BIENNALE in October 2023.

During this event, I spent seven days alongside extraordinary colleagues (whom I prefer to call collaborators rather than competitors), through whom I had the opportunity to forge new collaborations.

I had the opportunity to admire numerous works of great value, starting with those by DAVID LA CHAPELLE and to learn new techniques thanks to the daily workshops held during the event.nto.

It takes some effort, but it’s definitely worth it…

Participating in a photography exhibition requires a rigorous process of selecting the images to exhibit, which can lead to deep reflection on your own work and artistic style. Consider this self-assessment as training for the continuous development of your visual language.

Know that the preparation and management of an exhibition can prove useful in various professional contexts. From handling images to promoting the event, through managing timelines and resources, participating in a photography exhibition can be a comprehensive learning experience.

Something I would like to underline is that photography exhibitions offer the opportunity to receive direct feedback from both the audience and industry professionals. These comments and constructive criticisms can be extremely helpful in identifying strengths and areas for improvement in your work, enabling you to grow and progress as a photographer.

It’s undeniable that participating in photography exhibitions incurs costs, but consider them as an investment in your future.

For me, they are the best means to get noticed and to build a solid professional foundation.

The alternative? Creating a virtual photography exhibition.

Okay, I’ve told you that photography exhibitions are the best calling card for a professionally bright future. But if you really don’t feel ready to organize an in-person exhibition, that’s where ARTSTEPS comes into play as a valid alternative.

What is Artsteps?

Artsteps is a platform through which you can create your own virtual photography exhibition, to be showcased on the web worldwide: a true virtual tour.

It involves purchasing your own space at a very low cost among the various templates (exhibition spaces) provided. There are also some free spaces available, but they are of low quality.

The cost for a space like mine, which you will see in a few lines, is approximately 200 Euros. My advice is to purchase a space.

At this point, you will start building your exhibition using the provided software, which is truly intuitive, fast, and simple to use.

You will need to upload your artwork, on which you can add, if you wish, a description so that the user can learn more about that particular piece.

Not only that, but you can also add videos and audio to provide viewers with a truly immersive experience.

When you feel ready, publish it, and the whole world can view and comment on it!

As you can see, being a lover of simplicity and minimalism, my room is completely white with clean lines. Click on the image below to enter it.

Nota: la massima resa la si ha su un PC muovendosi con le frecce della tastiera. La musica puoi decidere tu se disattivarla. Espandi il formato per vederla a tutto schermo.

Before publishing it…

Before creating a virtual photography exhibition, a question I had was: “Once published, will I be able to make changes to it?”

The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES. So, you can replace your artworks, modify their descriptions, and anything else (for example, I still have to add many descriptions).

Before getting started…

I’ll tell you straight away that unfortunately, the platform does not support the Italian language. However, it is really intuitive and simple to use, so you won’t have any problems creating your exhibition. Also, it does not offer a trial period (also because it wouldn’t make sense).

Here’s how I did it…

First of all, you’ll need to register on the platform and choose your space.

Prepare the images (optional): create a frame around your images (I recommend doing this with Photoshop). Artsteps provides templates, but they’re not great. Perhaps add a light shadow to give a sense of dimensionality to your work

Once you’ve done that, simply import the images into the platform.

You’ll need to give a title to your works and add a description. The description is optional, but it will increase the attention of those who view your photography gallery.

Regarding the format (horizontal, vertical, or square), be mindful of where you position your works. I recommend not mixing the positions. Create an area where there will be horizontal works, another with vertical works, and another with square works. Take a look at my gallery to get an idea.

When you think you’re finished, you can publish your exhibition, which you can still modify at any time.

Editing means everything: you can add or replace artworks, change descriptions and titles, resize them, and much more.

The tool is very intuitive, so you won’t have any problems creating your virtual photography gallery.

Is it worth it?

If you’re wondering this, my answer is YES, absolutely! Of course, it will never be like an in-person exhibition: you’re not in direct contact with people, but at the same time, the costs will be significantly lower.

So consider this alternative as a high-quality business card: all your artworks gathered in one place, accessible to everyone, where you can still receive feedback that will help you grow professionally.

So, what can I say?

Will you try ARTSTEPS ? Let me know in the comments, and if you feel like helping me out, share this article.

A warm greeting and enjoy the exhibition!

Leonardo
